During Sunday’s Community Shield victory over Manchester City, Arsenal defender William Saliba was in incredible form.

Since March, when he was ruled out with a back injury, the Frenchman made his first competitive appearance for Arsenal.
He maintained his outstanding defensive play for the club from where he left off.
Saliba coped with Erling Braut Haaland’s threat without difficulty. The Norwegian failed to attempt a single goal-bound shot.
In addition to keeping Haaland silent, the center-back was also exceptional at distributing the ball and defending.
The 22-year-old had 86 touches and completed 71 of his 74 deliveries, for a passing accuracy of 96%.
In the meantime, he cleared the ball four times for the Gunners, won four duels, and made two challenges.
Last season, Saliba’s injury-related absence coincided with Arsenal’s Premier League slump.
The team lacked defensive cohesion in his absence. After eight months at the summit of the league, they succumbed to the pressure of expectations.
For the Gunners to contend for the league title this season, it is crucial that he remain healthy. Against City, Saliba displayed a masterful performance.
During the course of 90 minutes, he hardly made a single error. Due to Gabriel Magalhaes’ inability to close down Cole Palmer, the Gunners were defeated by his goal.
On Saturday’s early kickoff, Arsenal will host Nottingham Forest to open their league season. The club’s supporters are looking forward to another successful start.
